Comments on IE 8

Even though the interface is little changed, IE8 does have some major improvements over IE7. . .

Internet Explorer 8 has been designed to improve the performance of web applications. This is especially significant as more of our computing tasks are moving off the desktop and into web applications like Gmail and Google Docs and other Java related services.

The new browser also contains each webapp in its own tab, allowing it to be saved even if other tabs crash. CSS support has been improved, with standard improvements in SVG and other audio/visual support to be added in later versions, it appears.

Other features are much new and improved, too. IE8 has a smarter address bar than before. Start typing a URL and a drop-down offers suggestions from your recent history and/or favorites, returning preliminary results as you type. It also allows easy addition of a plug-in search engine to most any websites, complete with images, text and page descriptions.

IE8 even has a browsing mode to protect against scripting and other attacks. You can even make context sensitive commands when you right-click on different page elements, for example by being given options to "Blog this" or "Search for this" or "Translate this." Try it, you''ll easily figure it out.

There are new little features that will please, like a new bookmark manager and the
ability to isolate and print a specific part of any page.

As most know, Mozilla has been ahead of the curve on many of these features, such as the smart address bar and the security protections for a long time. Opera is way ahead on emerging standards like those applying to CSS and HTML. Google Chrome too is ahead with its private browsing mode, with the ability to isolate web applications within tabs.

Microsoft's IE8 is faster than IE7, although it does use up more memory. Yet, it's still not the fastest or the most innovative of the browsers available. Overall, it serves the mainstream user well with its broader affinity for most on and offline applications, reflecting the reality that up to 75% of the web is particularly Microsoft friendly.

Presently, IE8 is a manual download- that may change in the near future for Windows XP Service Pack 2 and 3/ Vista users.

More later. . .But, any comments below now are appreciated.

Some Insight into the GOP Party of NO

"Cruel people are ever cowards in emergency."
--Jonathan Swift (1667-1745)

Remember the republicans who want to prosecute doctors for performing abortions, or even giving contraceptive advice for billions in poverty due to serious population and ecological pressures? Remember the republicans who want to change public policy on the environment and more to the obvious public detriment, because science disagrees with their political and religious idealogy? Remember the republicans who deride others as traitors or want to throw persons into prison without due process just because they disagree with them, forget the explicit provisions otherwise in our constitution. . .Shall we go on? A cruel and insensitive lot, to be sure.

True to form, in this economic crisis the GOP Party of NO has derided and obstructed every serious attempt to ameliorate it without any valid response otherwise, prolonging the hardships of the American people. The republicans perceive partisan gain a value above all, damn the rest of us. They have shown themselves to be utterly cowardly and self-serving in this great emergency!

Keep the bums out of power.

Florida GOP Reps Leaders in the Party of NO

Florida's Republicans are in typical, cynical denial just to serve their own wayward partisan interests. This time, they refuse to accept the fact that Barack Obama is the President of the United States.

For examples of their latest irrationality (but certainly not a thinking role model for children):

Congressman Bill Posey from Melbourne has drafted legislation designed to fan the rumors on the extreme fringe of the Republican Party questioning President Obama's citizenship. Can you believe it? These rumors are of course, completely false. But the Party of NO just won't give up. Congressman Posey should be focused on creating jobs and jumpstarting the economy, but it seems he's only obsessed with pandering to the right wing, which he does so well. Obama's birth certificate is soooo on the record.

State Senator Rhonda Storms refused to acknowledge the fact that President Obama is the President during a hearing in the State Senate. Senator Storms repeatedly called Obama, "Senator Obama," "Candidate Obama," then she called him "The Messiah." And when the Democrats objected, the Republican Committee Chairman just got mad. She refuses to acknowledge the outcome of the overwhelming election nationwide of Barack Obama.

Bill Posey, Rhonda Storms and too many other Florida Republicans remind us that there is so much more work to be done before we can truly bring change to Florida. Their attitudes belong to another age that does not serve well the interests of modern Florida.

If these characters' obsurd views weren't enough bad news for Florida and the nation, click on the OpEdNews link below exposing the latest hypocrisy of John Mica of Florida 7- a Party of NO senior member. . .

http://www.opednews.com/articles/GOP-Party-of-NO-is-NO-good-by-Timothy-Newkirk-090313-818.html

Sad, sad, sad. . . yet people still vote for these reprobate fools!

Florida Republicans don't want to talk about Florida's problems because their policies caused the worst economic crisis in this state since the Great Depression. Now, Republican corruption, fiscal mismanagement and the continuing support of these policies by the jerks above is festering, making things worse.

Florida Democrats want change so that we can jumpstart the economy and create jobs. Democrats will clean up the corruption across our state - putting an end to the Republican waste, fraud and abuse.

Misanthrope Rep. Mica Is No Good for Florida 7

Attention Democrats Everywhere !!!

The rumor is that Democrat Faye Armitage will soon announce her new bid for the 7th Congressional seat in Florida against obstructionist troglodite John Mica, long since irrelevant and needing gone.

In the last election cycle, Faye made great inroads into this previously republican stronghold in northern Florida. Endorsed by progressive and even many conservative groups alike, Faye looks like our best hope to unseat the do nothing Mica, having come closer than any recent Democratic candidate to doing so. Florida District 7's demographics have radically changed to the center in the last decade, paving the way for a Democrat like Faye Armitage to take this crucial Congressional seat.

Faye Armitage is a real progressive candidate. We in the Florida netroots community like her savvy. We know she will be a huge upgrade over Mica in Washington, simply because she is so right on the issues that concern Florida and the nation:

*Faye is a longtime strong opponent of the disatrous war in Iraq and endorses our troops coming home and quickly and safely as possible.

*Faye favors national healthcare, because she believes it is a right and not a privilege.

*Faye favors using taxpayer dollars to benefit the working and middle classes, not the wealthy.

*Faye recognizes the dangers of global warming and wants us to actively pursue the scientific causes of the problem and find a solution.

*Faye wants us to develop alternative fuel sources, weening ourselves off foreign oil, especially including no drilling for oil off of Florida's environmentally sensitive coast.

*Faye is a strong longtime advocate for stem cell research policy not controlled by right wing extemists.

*Faye is in favor of the U.S. truly paying the debt it owes our veterans, meaning better healthcare and other deserved benefits.

Faye Armitage doesn't just bring casual opinions on these issues. She is an economist and has worked in the health care industry to bring about real, helpful change for us. We need more people in Washington with compassion, actual experience and knowledge on these imperative subjects confronting our democracy, right now!

***************

Please help the voters of Florida's Congressional District 7 and the country replace the blowhard, do nothing, republican rubber-stamp John Mica with progressive Democratic candidate Faye Armitage. She is the REAL candidate to represent the people of Florida's District 7! Go to Faye Armitage's' (needing some updating, Faye- lol) website http://www.fayeforcongress.com and contribute there to her soon to be announced Congressional campaign for 2010 !

Please view the new animation in the Sidebar Liberal Media theater:

It is a skillfully created rendition of the spirit of the inaugural of Barack Hussein Obama by our friend Mark Fiore (and we don't mean sending off persons to be tortured- for that you can look at other of his animations, to be sure- lol).

Wise Words for Obama

LDS Lies and Hypocrisy

A New York Times full-page ad of December 5, 2008 essentially claimed that violent 'mobs' of gays attacked The Latter Day Saints (more commonly known as the Mormon Church) members and property in response to the narrow passage of Proposition 8 in California. In case you were out of town, the measure banned gay marriage in the state and included other anti-gay sanctions.

The ad was taken out by major Mormon apologists for their political involvment historically like the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty and other religious kooks, including among others:

-Convicted felon Chuck Colson (Nixon criminal cohort).
-Christian evangelical right wing nut Rich Cizik.
-Catholic League bigot William Donohue.

Ironically, these cohorts of christian love all now love Mormons! Historically, these same groups have always conjoined to openly harrass them as heretical and evil. . .HMMMH?? Gays are even more evil than Mormons, one could conclude. . .

Are gays the new LDS?

********

The fact is that wealthy Mormons from across the country were the major contributors to the proposition's passage. Post election demonstrations against Prop. 8 came in rightful response to an anti-constitutional (the same issue on which the state supreme court had already ruled against, by the way) state initiative. A website, launched by 'christian' groups promoting the voter decision in California, NoMobVeto.com, convenientally forgot that they had already put basic human rights under the constitution up for a majority vote (Locke and Rousseau, anybody?), which is quintessentially mob rule!

This Times ad is full of blatant lies- much like the outrageous and immoral television ads attacking same-sex family ones during the Prop. 8 campaign. . . The fact is, the vast majority of the rallies across America were peaceful. Considering gay families and their supporters were just stripped of their basic rights by outright electoral deceit, the ensuing protests were remarkably calm. If any other oppressed group had been subjected to such humiliation by such a well funded ongoing political campaign, riots in the streets would have been expected.
The 'violence' pretended in the absurd New York Times ad by fundamentalist christian extemists is totally fake at best! The real violence is committed by these religious zealots against loving families and vulnerable children.
