More Disgusting GOP Bullshit about the Poor!

Get this from THE STATE newspaper- unbelievable!!

A prominent local man said recently that giving poor people food was like "feeding stray animals".

That man was none other than Andre Bauer, who is running for the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor in, yes you guessed it- South Carolina! He made his remarks during a town hall meeting in Fountain Inn that included overly represented white state lawmakers and about 115 overly represented white constituents. It concerned government food assistance to poor people, mostly black in his state:

Note: In South Carolina, 58 percent of students participate in the free and reduced-price lunch program.

-------------------

Bauer's remarks came during a speech in which he said government should take away assistance of children receiving food assistance during school hours if their parents didn't pass drug tests or attend parent-teacher conferences or PTA meetings.

"We can't afford to keep just giving money away." Bauer said, "They continue to have more and more kids, and the reward is there's more and more money in it for them."

-Totally for real- sad, sad sad. . .

Support S. 891 NOW

Please, contact your U. S. Senators to pass The Conflict Minerals Act of 2009!

It would direct the President with the force and influence of the United States within the United Nations Security Council to strengthen the UN's policy toward the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It will and investigate links between natural resources and the financing of illegal armed groups and impose sanctions.

The legislation would also direct the Secretary of State to work with nongovernmental organizations to provide strict guidance to companies involved with natural resources in the DRC.

A followup to Senate Resolution 713, sponsored by Sen. Nelson of Florida and passed unanimously by the Senate in 2008, this measure condemns the escalating violence in eastern DRC with penalties.

It is important for the United States to take a stand against these continuing atrocities by passing this Act.

**********

Government and rebel forces in the DRC are engaged in a brutal conflict that, despite a peace deal, continues to terrorize innocent people and destabilize neighboring countries. Lives are endangered, sexual assaults continue, and hundreds of thousands of civilians are displaced.

The U.S. has a clear national security and moral interest in restoring stability in the Great Lakes region of Africa and promoting a democratic government in the DRC.

Please do it NOW- Look for resources in the Side Bar!
