All Americans Have Common Interests

"So, let us not be blind to our differences—but let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved."   -- John F. Kennedy (1917- 1963)

Obama's Promises Kept mostly. . .

In two years, President Obama has moved America forward, even though constantly thwarted by the Republican right-wing.  This was done by creation into law after successful passage through a hostile Congress of:

  • The Recovery Act
  •  Health Care Reform
  •  Wall Street Reform
  •  Repeal of 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'
Many things are still to be done, no doubt!

-also, include the new START Treaty!  It is landmark legislation for our national security. . . (addendum as of 02/11)

Look back on these two years by downloading a copy of a new White House report called "Promises Kept":

John F. Kennedy's Sad 20th c. Insight. . .

"It is an unfortunate fact that we can secure peace only by preparing for war."   --John F. Kennedy (1917-1963)

This old 'realpolitik' must change.  Otherwise we are doomed!

The new START Treaty is the way forward.  Thanks, Mr. Obama. . . nary a republican vote.

'Don't Ask Don't Tell' is Dead!-- MERRY XMAS. . .

The U.S. Military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy repeal has just cleared its last congressional hurdle in the Senate!  The President will sign the repeal into law this coming week.

This discriminatory law will be relegated to the dustbin of history, where it belongs. This stain on our nation will be lifted forever. We made it happen.

Today, America lived up to its highest ideals of freedom and equality, finally and not a moment too soon. Today, our federal government recognized that ALL men and women have the right to openly serve the country they believe in. Finally, it doesn't matter who you are, or who you love – you are not a second-class citizen.

Kids who are bullied for being different, who live in fear daily that their parents will hate them if they find out the truth are finally vindicated... Think of the relief, the empowerment, the sense of possibility they'll feel, knowing that the U.S. military has said that if you're lesbian or gay, you are worthy. We want you to join us, side by side, as equals.

Think of the people across the globe – some in countries where it is literally a life or death decision to come out as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender – who will hear this news and know we're one step closer toward a world where no one needs to live in fear because of who they are.

This is a watershed moment for the LGBT community. . .  We will never go back.
